Available on US military bases PX/BX AND R&R LOCATIONS, the early Seiko Divers, particular the 6105, were Popular with US soldiers in Vietnam. The 6105 would become a combat watch long before 1979 when Martin Sheen, as Captain Willard in “Apocalypse Now”, wearing a 6105-8110 while traversing the NAM into CAMBODIA AND ITS HIGHLANDS in search of the Off The Reservation Rogue Colonel Kurt (Marlon Brando) and his “Montagnard” Army who were wreaking havoc on the Viet Cong [Vietnamese Communist Forces].
The Snake-Eaters and the Yards
The Vietnamese tribesmen who fought alongside American Special Forces won the Green Berets’ admiration—and lost everything else. The indigenous Montagnards, recruited into service by the American Special Forces in Vietnam’s mountain highlands, defended villages against the Viet Cong and served as rapid response forces. The Special Forces and the Montagnards—each tough, versatile, and accustomed to living in wild conditions—formed an affinity for each other….
The 6105-8000 was introduced in 1968. but the 6105 8110/8119 were made from 1970-1977, and were first delivered with the words “water proof” as in: “water 150m proof” on the dial, and “waterproof” on the case back. But a US ban on using the words “WATERPROOF” on watches meant SEIKO would alter the words to “water 150m resist” with “water resistant” on the back later in the same year. This adds to value. Many early seiko watches carried the waterproof info, finding these, specifically the early 8119.. well, that is a cause for definite premium over the “resist/resist” models.

NEVER USE THE TERM NEW OLD STOCK IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE TERM MEANSI
never use new old stock if what you are offering is not new as in brand new! new old stock cannot have anything that is worn or not working or shows anything that is not like new… what it means is that it has been in a box or safe or manufacturer warehouse or someone’s safety deposit box or where ever in near mint condition. say the item shows that it was exposed to the sun, it has worn or faded paint, or has anything that shows it was used in any fashion, it cannot be claimed to be nos. . now, a movement cannot be claimed to be original in excellent condition if that movement shows any sign of dirt, rust, or that it requires any cleaning. very simple. most movements need servicing no matter how great they run. how in the hey do they become dirty or worn or stop running? well , when you are a dummy and open one up, and it was running great, you break the seal. now, a watch breaths, that is correct, no matter the seal. duh!!. every time you pull the crown fresh air rushes in. the transfer of hot and cold like weather its self causes dust and particles to enter watch . over a 30 40 50 year it also gathers light moisture. this turns to rust dust and chemicals. this watch is desperately in need of service. look a the old seal? see the oranges dusty stuff????? it is light but there. i cannot believe it was not serviced. you can tell by the very markers and hands that it is a sugar coated time piece no better than a used car on a used car lot all polished up with bright signs, seat covers and a slick as ice salesman pawning it off as like brand new that is only surface rust, will come off with a garden hose… heck just wax her……………………… LATER rock

i am just wondering: i am confused. you have sapphire crystal. i do not recall a quality genuine dive watch having a sapphire crystal.. they shatter too easy. I BELIEVE ONLY HARDLEX WAS USED FOR GLASS AND MOSTLY ACRYLIC FOR PLASTIC.Japan used HARDLEX … even when others used sapphire, Dive manufacturers preferred not to use synthetic sapphire in applications where shatter resistance is important, hence Seiko was still using ‘HARDLEX’ glass long after many began using sapphire in quartz watches in the 1970’s
The most sort-after and collectible Seiko divers watch ARE NEW OLD STOCK. That would be like BRAND NEW. Hence NEW Old Stock. Like found in a safe or in a Manufacturers Storage.
“Superb Seiko 6217-8001 Automatic Diashock gents divers watch featuring a black sunburst dial, luminous raised baton hour markers, center sweep seconds, date aperture at 3, “SEIKO AUTOMATIC” at 12, “WATER 150 PROOF, DIASHOCK 17 JEWELS” & JAPAN 6217 -8000T” at 6. Very minor patina on the raised gilt stainless steel baton hour markers & hands as clearly shown in pics..the luminous filling is all in good order.
I would state that that is not a patina but that wear from use in ultraviolet rays, “sunlight” wore off the silver coating to the plastic markers revealing the white plastic base.
Finished in brushed & smooth steel tones.Yes, but it shows recent high speed buffing wheels with no finish wheeling..
Original domed sapphire crystal in mint condition. as stated Seiko did not use SAPPHIRE CRYSTALS.
Original vintage 19mm Tropic divers rubber strap with stainless steel pin buckle marked “SEIKO”..the buckle looks like an added buckle to what i believe to be a modern strap, the actual genuine strap looked similar to the two to the left. they were a genuine rubber blend that would be bleeding BY now. no matter how well kept. what i believe you have is a new style strap with no natural rubber. i may be wrong, but it surely does not look like the pattern of the original
Original stainless steel case-back still with thin plastic film covering it numbered 6513531, well, may be, but the actual blue protective covering was not as thick as what i am looking at. today there is plenty of blue covering. now i cannot tell from picks, yet you have markers and hands that show extensive wearing in sunlight, i mean years of use to make the markers peel off like they have. it takes years of use to do that. l;ook at the 6105 8000 i restored, it went diving from brand new to 1979 when it was used to knock a moray in the head. the owner still received 40 stitches and smashed the crown flooding the watch with salt water. it was thrown into a cooler upon reaching shore and given to me in 2006. the dial is original and markers. look at it. note the markers….so, how did your become peeled if it was nos.
The brilliant movement is marked SEIKO 17 JEWELS, 6217A and is in super clean condition. This is a highly renowned automatic movement for both it’s accuracy & reliability. The watch is also known as 62MAS to resemble the “62” Movement-Automatic- Seconds sweep functions.Fully working and keeping excellent time..you do see the rust and dirt no?? it was not serviced and for a NOS watch how come all the rusted metal. granted it is not pitted, but even the rotor screw has light orange around the screw????t
Finding one in fair, all original condition is hard enough as most out there have been refurbished. This is undoubtedly the best you’ll ever find in 100% original condition. It has obviously been handled over the past 50+ years from new but shows minimal signs of this so selling strictly as NEW OLD STOCK! sorry it cannot be new old stock. it can be A 62 MAS in excellent condition, with slightly damaged markers hands movement runs like new but requires servicing and cleaning, strap is after market. illumination is worn and worn down from exposure to the suns ultra violet rays and could use refilling.
strictly no returns as the watch will be fully checked AGAIN by a specialist before dispatch. are you not a specialist– you are surely stating you are???
